Recently, George Chambers,87, has given the Archive access to a wealth of family and local memorabilia in the form of written memories, photos and newspaper-cuttings.
The Chambers family played a very important role in the development and shaping of Canvey Island in the 20th century. With so much material available we hope to illustrate this involvment in several sections, which may not initially be in chronological order.
Firstly' George has taken the time to write an amusing account of his memories of living and working on his family's farms at Furtherwick and Little Gypps;
