  • Re: The photo of the Award Evening. 6th person, middle row is indeed Martin. Martin Smith, I know, I married him in 1966. We lived on the Island until 1988, when hubbie, myself and our two sons emigrated to Australia where we built very happy lives. Unfortunately he passed away in 2010.

  • Hi Jacqui I was sorry to hear that Martin has passed away. I think I remember he lived at the top of Hawkesbury Road and I lived in Hawkesbury Close, regards Helen

  • I was also one of the first pupils at Furtherwick School. I was there from 1957 to 1960′ I lived in Marine Parade, before moving to Elm Road, my family then moved nearer London to open up a shop. I was head girl of the school and seem to think the class teacher was Mr Daniels. I returned to the school for a trip to Switzerland and think I have some photos of the trip and hopefully can help with some more names. I certainly recognize some faces but names??.

    I also emigrated to Adelaide in South Australia in 1974 with my husband and two young daughters. Unfortunately John passed away in 2009. I am still in Adelaide and now have 3 grandsons. I was in the UK 6 years ago visiting my brother and family, My grandmother lived in May Avenue which was near the school, unfortunately the school was fully fenced and I was unable to see to much. A shame is has been demolished, is it being replaced?

  • Hi Pat I moved into no 3 Hawkesbury Close when the road was first built and moved out to marry in 1972. My mum moved to the point in 1983 or 1984 so I would not have known you. Helen
