Classic! There’ll never be another Audrey. The bubbly personality of headmistress Audrey Phillips will be missed from Canvey County Infants School following her retirement after 33 years. Governors joined the children at a school assembly where Mrs Phillips said goodbye. She was presented with a watch and a gold sovereign from the pupils and their families. Staff handed her a gold chain to complete the sovereign necklace. Mrs Lorraine Breading, vice-chairman of the governors, said:’ She was an excellent head and very bouncy-far more energy than i have got. Parents were always welcome to see her and ask questions. She had a vey kind ear. Everyone will miss her.’ The school’s deputy head Mrs Jan Shayes is acting head until a replacement is found for Mrs Phillips.
