Bomb Crater

June 1940

The WW2 attached picture shows my Uncle, Ted Marshall, standing in the bomb crater in the back garden of No.19 Marine approach in June 1940 holding a piece of shrapnel (the bomb destroyed my grandfathers vegetable patch!)-my mother, who was living in the house with her parents while my Dad was in the army, was expecting me at the time-they later moved to No.1 Marine Approach.Other than a few broken windows it appears to have done relatively little damage (very soft soil?) In any event my Mother was thrown out of bed.

Also attached is what was written about the event on the reverse of the picture.

The picture sadly is of poor quality-it was sent to me from a Canadian cousin after being lost for years.
