Canvey on Dad's Army

Film 1971

We received sometime ago an email from one of our readers telling us that a map of Canvey was used by the Germans in the 1971 film of the TV program Dad’s Army.

We can now confirm that it is true. They used the map of Canvey talking about the invasion as if it was the South coast of Kent. These are some screen shots from the film. As you can see it is definitely Canvey. Hole Haven and the Point are very obvious. In the bottom two pictures Thorney Bay can clearly be seen.

I wonder what the thinking was when they did this?
