Canvey Victims of 1953 Flood

Buried at Jotmans Cemetery Benfleet

First look at how the plaque could look. The size will be 22″ high x 19″ wide.

24 victims from Canvey of the 1953 floods are buried at Jotmans Cemetery in South Benfleet.

Once numbers are confirmed we will be enquiring about costs and funding to place a memorial plaque in the cemetery grounds.

The placing of a plaque has already been agreed in principle with the authorities.

When we have more details we will let you know. If a member of your family was a victim of the floods on Canvey and you can tell us where they are buried please comment below or contact me at jan@canveyisland.org.

  • I can now confirm that the £300 we had left from the Jotman’s flood plaque will be passed to the Friends of Concord Beach for the Flood Mural.
