Central Heating Big Band.

c1970s

In the stream concerning the Canvey Band The Silver Buttons, Mick Goodall was hoping to see a photo of the band’s later incarnation, the Central Heating Big Band. The only photo I’ve seen was recently posted on Facebook by Dennyb Mory, another musician familiar to those who knew the Canvey band scene in the 60’s. Den has kindly authorised me to post this photo in response to Mick. I guess it is the same shot that Mike Booth mentioned in his post and may be of interest to others.

The picture is of the band supporting PJ Mann at the Circus Tavern in the early 70’s. They were in the frame to back Mann on a tour that would have encompassed the Bahamas. Unfortunately, they could not commit to it at that time. Who knows what might have developed?

The line up left to right: Paul Jaggers on ‘bone; Mike Booth on trumpet; Mel Vickers on tenor sax; Spud Edwards (concealed by PJ Mann) on drums; Dennyb, on bass; Mick Becker on vocals; Andy Wade on Guitar.

  • Many thanks for posting this Tony, the band certainly did expand after I left. Looks like they were into soul with that number. Pity they didn’t go on tour but most people needed their day jobs in that era.
