I knew Derek very well, he kept loads of birds and reptiles at his home in Heideburg road, I think. It was of great interest to me as I kept birds at the time. I worked at Basildon zoo at the time and Derek was known to the owners, so came over quite a lot and exchanged animals with them. At one time he even had a puma cub at his house. He had a good knowledge of animals. He also had a great dane dog called silver. He moved to Wales in the late 70s and I lost contact. I have some very good memories of Derek.
