E J Cook Dairy

Canvey High Street

Rod Bishop

The dairy was my Grandfather’s –  Edward Cook, who also had a dairy shop along a bit from the bungalow, which was located on the corner of Chamberlain Avenue. This later became Miss Sartins (Sweets & Ladies Clothes). His cow sheds were across the road on the corner of Florence Road which is now a car repair workshop.

In the photo, which was taken in about 1920 are my mother Nora Cook who later married my father Bill Bishop and her twin sisters Dorothy and Betty.

  • Great Picture.

I believe this property was called Castlewood. Built in 1910 by A. BLUNDELL.

  • In 1922, E.COOK had approved an 18′ x 12′ shop built on the land with his bungalow, with a “bridge” that connected to the main road.
