A Flood Family Returns to Canvey

Lent to us by Terry Sullivan

No exact date for this photo but on the back is written:-

Among those who are returning to their flooded sodden homes at Canvey Island were Mr and Mrs Stanley Davis and their children Brian, 17 and Susan 7 who were trapped in their bungalow on the night of the flood. Mrs Davis was nearly drowned that night when the water came up to her shoulders and Mr Davis held Susan above his head while they all struggled across the flooded road to the two-storeyed villa opposite where they remained until they were rescued by a DUK the next day. Since then the family has been staying at the home of Mrs Davis's parents at Shepherds Bush although Mr Davis returned to Canvey earlier this week to light fires in the rooms in readiness for his family's return today.
