Soldiers filling sandbags

This great photo taken in front of the Red Cow (Now King Canute) showing the soldiers filling the sandbags. This area was the highest point on the Island at the time of the floods and became the central point for the armed forces sent to help with rescue and repair. As depicted in this cartoon.

You can see the familiar buildings at the junction of Haven Road including the 1621 Dutch Cottage.
