During our open day my friend whose family were friends of the Pruins spotted this newspaper clipping and was able to identify Kars and his wife with their dog.
Kars helped many people during the aftermath of the floods of ’53. He was known as Dutchy but the press called him the ‘Mad Dutchman’ because he just kept going out rescuing people for hours. He brought many back to his houseboat which was moored in Tewkes Creek.
