  • I like the 2nd picture. Looks like Mrs Coley hosts a Fabio Capello look-alike competition. I think the out-right winner is ‘Curly’ Coyl (back-centre). Graham.

  • can anyone put names to some of these people.

  • Standing beside Kath Coley in the second photo is her husband George with their mischievous son John standing next to George. In the third photo John is posing at the front and George is standing behind Kath. I knew “Aunty Kath” and “Uncle George” most of my life and along with my sister were childhood friends of John and his older brother Philip. Kath, George and the boys lived in The Casino in the ’60s where they had a snack bar, the first donut kiosk situated at the front of The Casino and in later years the sweet shop also on the front of The Casino. Kath was well known as the First Aid Lady and we all went to her with our cuts and grazes which as you can imagine were plentiful with The Casino as our back garden. Happy memories!

  • 2nd picture 3rd from the left is my nan Nurse Andrews (in the black dress), she was in the St Johns on the ambulances during the war and I have copies of the letters that was sent to her from officers in the forces thanking her for her assistance with their men when a doodlebug dropped in the village. My nan was married to “Ted the Baker” he was the man who rode a trike with a big box on the front delivering bread all over the island. They lived at Hanslope Cottage at the top of Haven Road. Most of the girls in our family all belonged to the St Johns Ambulance Brigade, right down from my nan through the generations to my cousins. Most of the older people will remember Nurse Andrews & Ted (the Baker) Andrews.

  • Hello Joy. Mr & mrs Andrews had a son called Trevor if i remember rightly. He was about my age, maybe a year older, and we were in the scouts.

  • Kathy which one is John Ponsford in which pix please?

    By Rick Fulton (28/08/2013)
  • John Ponsfords sister lives in Australia in Clare near Melbourne and has just sadly lost her dear husband. Not sure though which one in the school photo is John. The lady first left in the 3rd photo is, I think, Mrs Dudbridge, Tony and Bills mother.

  • Is his sister Kay?

  • I recognise my dearest friend Christine Langrish in the school photo.  She sadly died in about 1983.

  • Hi

Just read the post by Kathy mentioning lorraine hodder, adrian mason, graham jefferies, pauline short, anne kentfield, valerie waters, barbara carter, sharon edwards, angela parish?? robert carter, pat verlander, carol husband, john ponsford, gorden perkins, christine langrish.

I went to Furtherwick Rd school with most of these people.

Was Christine Langrish related to Mike. I played in a band with Mike along with Victor Collins.

Adrian Mason used to stay at our house after school until his parents came home from work.

Love to hear from anyone who might remember me..Paul Smith

    cheers

  • Hi George, Mr & Mrs Andrews had 2 sons Clifford and Derek and 3 daughters Ada, Joyce and Rita, Trevor (Ada’s eldest) was their grandson.

    By Joy Fleming (09/03/2017)
  • Ah, thanks Joy. I was born in 1947 and left the island in 1962, so would that tie in with Trevors age, or the other 2 boys?

I remember mr & mrs Andrews house at the top of Haven road, but at 70 years old my memory is a bit vague now.

  • In the third picture, the gentleman crouching at the front left is Charles (Charlie) Dobbs. Lady standing on furthest left is his wife Joan Dobbs. They were my uncle and aunt (passed away 1981 and 1984 respectively).

    By Terry Barry (23/08/2017)
  • Hi George, yes it would be the right age for Trevor but he would have only been very young. Derek was the youngest of Nan’s 2 boys.
