Silver Wedding of the Vicar of Canvey

The Rev. and Mrs J. R. Brown celebrated this happy event on Saturday last, and were the recipients of a very large number of felicitous greetings and valuable gifts. The schools were en fete, an “At Home’ being held, to which all parishioners and friends were invited—a large number bringing presents. The presents were on view, and a large wedding cake was cut and distributed during the evening. The presents included; From the Vicar, silver dinner and desert forks and spoons, with table spoons, etc; Misses Brown, silver egg cruet and cake stand; Mr and Mrs R Brown, pair of silver vases; Mr and Mrs W P Brown pair of silver vases. Mr. and Mrs Finch, pair of silver candlesticks; Mr and Mrs. J. Harrison, pair of silver candlesticks; Mr. and Mrs. Barber, silver serviette rings; Mr. and Mrs. Machin, pair of silver vases; Miss Lowden, case of silver toilet articles; Mr. and Mrs, Hedley Powell, silver vase: Mrs. Hayes, case of silver cruets; Mr. and Mrs. Hardy, pair of silver vases; Mr. P Hardy, bon-bon dish: Mr. and Mrs. Payne, silver salts bottle; Miss Hodkin, silver vase; Mr. and Mrs. E. Cox, picture; Mr. and Mrs. Hubner, water colour painting: Mr. and Mrs F Hester, bonnet pin stand; from “17 Mothers of the 17th.” flower stand; Mr. and Mrs. Hepburn, case of silver tea knives; Mrs. H. Payne, bou­quet. A musical programme was rendered, and refreshments handed round at intervals.

The Rev. Mr Brown, Vicar of Canvey has given two addresses on “The Church and Social Service” at St Katherine’s Church and at the Mission Church, Canvey Island.
