My family moved to Canvey in 1923 and lived in various rented accommodation before moving into the Schoolhouse in the 30s with her 3 children and her mother. She took the job of caretaker because the rent was 2/6d cheaper. Granddad was killed in WW1. My Mum and her sister were both married from there, no wedding cars required…a short walk across the road and back again after the deed was done.
Now on another topic altogether….Can any one identify the little 3 room wooden Bungalow which stood on the right hand side of the Ozonia Hotel? The building was used at one time to store the Deck chairs used on the beach, and is just visible in some of the Postcards of Ozonia.
