Telephone Exchange Oxford Road

1953 flood damaged

By Janet Penn

The telephone exchange in Oxford Road was flooded in the 1953 floods closing the switchboard which hampered the rescue operations. A temporary mainframe and switchboard was set up and the rewiring of the switchboard was underway when these photos were taken in March of that year.

Many thanks to Martin Lepley for putting me on to these photos.
