Thameside Crescent and Gun Emplacements

Britain from above 1949

This aerial picture shows the area around Thameside Crescent and just north and to the left you can see the ‘Furtherwick TN7’ Heavy Anti Aircraft Gun Site and accommodation blocks. This was built on part of Little Gypps farm in 1940. After decommission the accommodation blocks were used for housing and the actual gun emplacements were dismantled and covered over eventually being turned into a children’s playground. The area became a Scheduled Monument in 2001.
