A nine man syndicate from Canvey Island hit the Vernons Easter Pools Jackpot with a win of £358,098.40 with a stake of just £1.

Ron Sweeting, the syndicate leader, said “All the lads are members of our local Conservative Club and they’re all over the moon with the size of the win, it’s fantastic.”

The Echo photos show the group being presented with their cheque by Diana Dors. This was in April 1984. It is probably one of the last photos of Diana Dors as she died the following month.
