Today Canvey Island remembers the 60th Anniversary of the Armistice that ended the Korean War (25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) in which one Canvey Islander was killed, Reginald Bernard Newman. His niece Jessica Thorndike was among those who laid wreaths.
