The Olympics comes to Castle Point

In a few days the Olympics starts and our borough of Castle Point will host the Mountain Bike Event on the 11th and 12th August at Hadleigh Castle.

On the 1 April 1974 Canvey Island District Council merged with Benfleet Urban District Council and became Castle Point District Council. The name Castle Point contains references to the principal landmarks in the two areas, Hadleigh Castle and Canvey Point. In 1992 the District Council became a Borough Council.

The preparations for the games has caused lots of problems for Canvey and the surrounding area with massive roadworks over the last two years. From Canvey we can see the Castle and the area where the Mountain Bike Event is happening. We can see the large number of tents that have now been erected on the land nearby.

Canvey will be seen by visitors and TV viewers as I am sure the fantastic views from Hadleigh Castle over the estuary will be flashed across the world.

We are all dressed up, one of the Olympic torches has made its way to Canvey. The sun is shining (fingers crossed) lets hope it was all worth it.
