Horace Read lived in Canvey village and he used to go to the Orange Cafe which was situated opposite the Red Cow pub. He had his lunch there every Saturday. It consisted of Welsh Rarebit with an extra slice of toast so that he could spread the topping over 2 slices. He’d then happily go off and take some more of his great photos.
