Visit from Winchester University

With Graham and Rod

Once more our colleagues Graham and Rod met up with students this time from The University of Winchester who are studying hazards management, together with their lecturer Tom Ball. They are looking at the effects and precautions taken against tidal surges etc. Not a good day to be wondering around Canvey, very cold and windy.

Rod Says:We met the group in the Rugby Club car park with wind and rain belting down and students that were reluctant to leave their mini bus and brave the weather. Tom eventually got them out and we proceeded onto the sea wall by the Tewkes Creek Sluice and Dam, then along the wall a short way. The weather then brightened up a bit before we set off in our vehicles to the Smallgains Dam, then from there to the sea wall at the end of Seaview Road. We then took them to see the flood murals on the wall by Concord Beach before they set off back home. Tom was pleased with the history of the Island’s sea defences etc. that we explained to them during their visit and he said they would return again, probably in the summer.

Hopefully the weather will be better next time.
