I attended William Read school between 1965 and 1969. It was a junior school then. The head master was Mr. Clarke. I was always fascinated by the budgie aviary, that was in the school courtyard. Also the cold outdoor swimming pool! There was an old wooden classroom behind the main buildings, this was Mr. Bowers class. I recognise a name from one of the contributors on this site, Annette Huddson, you were in my class.
Goodness! I had forgotten what it looked like! I went to William Read in the infants and the juniors, leaving in 1969. (I remember You Gary Casson). I loved the courtyard area and remember the swimming pool well, the teachers had to take the temperature and we weren’t allowed to go swimming if the temperature was below 65 degrees Fahrenheit!
