  • re the painting Thames sailing barge at sea. The sailing barge is ‘May’ which was and I believe still is, owned by Silvertown Services. She is easily recognised by her bob and also by the white marks at the top of her leeboards. I believe it was painted specifically for Silvertown Services and I have also seen colour prints of this painting.

  • The barge is indeed the May. The area at the forward end of her leeboards was painted silver (it is the area of the large steel plates at that end of the board). They are still silver today. She has been recently sold to a parnership based at Pin Mill in Suffolk. She is maintained in sail. http://www.nickardley.com
