The stained glass windows were destroyed by vandals when St Katherine’s stood neglected during the period before it was re-opened as the Heritage Centre in 1979. Two of the original volunteers, June Graham and Pat Coan, cleared the broken glass from all the broken windows labelling them and storing them in the loft. The windows were replaced with plain glass which has remained until recently when restoration work on the windows began.

Today Castle Point Mayor Mrs Jackie Govier unveiled the window which was restored with the money from a lottery grant and many fundraising events. The window features images of St Bartholomew and Mary Magdalene.

One of the next windows they want to restore on the opposite wall is one of the Mother’s Union. Money is now being raised to make that come true.
