The Concrete Barge Lives On
If you thought she was obliterated in 2003, you were wrong...
By Beyond the Point Liam Heatherson
The Concrete barge, Canvey's icon, has been thought to be gone since 2003, when it was smashed up overnight. In actual fact, a good half of it's ribbed base remains, along with the very bottom of it's right side, both made from concrete back in the 1940s. It is lined with metal wires and rods weaved throughout it's ancient hull, and is certainly worth going to visit at the Point, where it has always been, even if nowhere near as imposing as it must have been back in the day.
