Interesting to see the Canvey Supply clock tower. In the 1930’s living in Castle Road Hadleigh we use to read the time from the clock with a telescope while watching the shipping in the Thames.

Day trippers waiting in line for the bus off of Canvey!! If the tide was out they were lucky but if it was in, chances are they had a long wait if the bridge was opened or the level crossing gates were closed for the trains to pass.

The Furtherwick road queue could have been taken when the buses went on strike one weekend, leaving the holiday makers high and dry. some of the ‘boys’ with cars ran a taxi service to and from Benfleet Station, ferrying holiday makers, much to the annoyance of the Taxi drivers who had more work than they could cope with.
