You may be interested in the attached a photo of myself taken in 1943 when I was 10, it was taken in Small Gains Creek when I was on my Grandfathers Thames Barge which was moored overnight in the Ray, he was the Skipper.

My Grandfathers name was William Brown, he was only 18 when he became a Barge Skipper, he taught me to sail and we entered most of the Southend regattas with his racing yacht Ruby and won many trophies.
