  • Hello. I think the building in the background could be the Salvation Army hall in Mitchells avenue with the old Smallgains creek wall behind[now gone] I know rescued people were taken there. The same building with photo of the eldery lady being carried. Regards Sparrow

  • My Dad was in the Army at the time and he was one of the Army that helped out and also he helped to build the sea wall up. I was not born then. But my Mum had 2 children and the 3rd on its way which was another sister she was born 31st 1953
