I think you will find the restaurant and cafe as we know it was not done till 1998. The upstairs cafe was still open after 1989.

Shortly (I think) before he passed away, the late great Ian Dury filmed the last scene of an advert for The Sunday Times outside the main entrance looking as it does above.
