Very good to see the picture of Lly and Ann and to learn that Chas Carey was awarded an OBE. Best wishes to all current members from 2 members in 1963 now living in East Hanningfield.
It is very heart-warming (and breath-restoring) to see these dedicated women who actually defied the conventions of male dominated water-safety and lifesaving roles rise to the challenge of aquatic rescue training and lifeguard certification, especially for the period. Lily, Enid and Ann are inspirations to us all, in particular to women everywhere, for their courage and perseverance in taking the time and effort to learn and teach us how to save a life in the water. They seem so comfortable with one another in such a demanding environment. It would be fascinating to hear of accounts of their experiences as lady lifesavers or see more photos of the women demonstrating their rescue skills and resuscitation, or ” kiss-of-life ” technique. Kudos to all.
