It was great to read about Charlie (Chas) I was a member in the sixtes I lived at leigh and in the winter months we used to swim in westcliff in a private pool I think it was a school pool. I used to love the Canvey Island life saving club and often wondered about Charles. Now I know Geoffrey

Fantastic! Chas and I used to swim together during his "dinner breaks" in Aldgate and then at Whitechapel. I lived at Shoeburyness and he suggested I join his club. I did and met Angela Payne, my wife for nearly 48 years. Chas and Lily were at our wedding in Benfleet on Boxing day 1963. Great to have Chas's history - wonderful!

nice to have known Charles, my only regret is that I did get to know him better..knew him when I submitted his building plans to the local council and when I soaked him with water whilst he was relaxing sailing off Thorney Bay, I was water sking at the time

We are saddened to hear that Charlie passed away at home on Friday 9th March and of Lily's passing in May last year. We send our condolences to their sons Chris and David and their families.

I met Charles & Lily years ago when they visited Denver, colorado.  We were at the Molly Brown museum.  I felt a connection & gave Charles my address.  We corresponded till I went through a divorce & lost touch with him.  I had reason to think of him & googled some things to see if his name would come up & see he died.  Sorry now that I didn't stay in touch.  I now live in Arizona with my son.
