Close up of the Bungalow name - Can you make out what this says?

I recently purchased these photos at an auction. It is sad to find a family photo album has been chopped up and seperated by location. The three Photos only have christian names but the first tantalisingly has some bungalows in the background. The original print was made back to front but I have corrected it here – can you make out what the bungalow name is – apparently something Villa? I have blown it up but unlike the fiction of television crime shows it doesn’t help much!

  • Hi Dave,
At first glance I thought it was Rowntree or Rowantree Villa, now I’m not so sure, having checked through Janet Penns’ list of bungalow names taken from burial records(1813-1938) I cannot find a likely match amongst the capital B,P&R names or the villas and villes. However among the Ps I did come across one called Perseverance, so don’t give up!

  • I recon the name says “Brownie Villa”.

In the 1929 electoral roll there are three possible candidates:

    1. The FISHER family Laars Ave.
    2. The COPSEY family Laars Ave.
    3. The COMPTON family Laars Ave.

All three properties have Brownies in the name of the property.
