‘As Black as She’s Painted’ presented by the Dolphin Theatre Group, Canvey, for three days at Canvey War Memorial Hall, proved to be an enjoyable farce, staged by a word-perfect company.

The story tells how a dithering theatrical producer, neatly played by Bert Howard, has to keep the secret of his work from his sisters – roles handled with some skill by Maye George and Dorothy Austin. Dudley George, always good in ‘bewildered clergyman’ parts, excelled himself as the Rev. Norvil Ninglefoot and Etta Tillet was a sparkling blonde Cartnell.

Strong support was given by Kay Whitcombe, Brian and Reginald Goudge. The play was produced by Kay Witcombe.
